Prayer Partners

Matthew 18:19: Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Notice the word two appears twice in the passage. Sometimes it will be a blessing to have just one prayer partner. Every believer needs prayer partners. The more the better. If married couples are both believers, they should be prayer partners before they are anything else. Some can find prayer partners at work or among their neighbors and friends. Many churches are full of believers that pray with one another and for one another. If you have no prayer partners you are to be pitied. If you don*t know that you need them you are to be pitied. If you are not regularly part of a Biblical church you are to be pitied. Not having prayer partners is one of the main causes of unanswered prayers among believers.

When the first Pastor I had after I was saved had problems preparing a sermon he would call his wife and ask her: Are you praying? She knew instantly what he wanted her to pray about and he knew that often after he called her the problem with the sermon was cleared up. One of my prayer partners was the assistant pastor at the church I attended. We met every Monday evening and prayed together. Another prayer partner was a PK. We prayed together over coffee or on the phone.

We must not neglect to have human prayer partners. Notice Jesus* words in the passage if two of YOU shall agree ON EARTH. But if we have received Jesus we have the Holy Spirit who is the most wonderful prayer partner.

Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.

Why does it say without ceasing? I believe it is because there is never a moment when we do not need Him meeting our needs. As I look back on my years as a Christian I remember the two driest times. They lasted 4 or 5 months. I experienced very little growth, fruit, joy etc. I was a virtual Christian loner. The first time was when right after I got saved. It took 4 months to find the church the Lord wanted for me. The second dry time was when I moved from one state to another. I estimate that I visited 15 or 20 churches before I found the right one. Other than those two lonely times I am grateful that the Lord has always provided me with prayer partners and often many at the same time.
